Following the completion of the regular season, we now have the La Berliga Super Cup to enjoy. All eight teams played in the first round of games, vying for a spot in the Semifinals.
First Round Matches
The regular season champions Birrareal devoured Rubin Kebab and won by a score of 10-5. Birrareal continued their dominance from the regular season and are surely the team to beat in this cup. Babacar Diouf powered the winners to victory with an impressive 7.71 performance, and he was also aided by strong performances from Kado Damball and Domenico Capotorto. The loss and their last place finish in the league mark a disspointing end to Rubin Kebab’s season as defending La Berliga champions.
Real Coholics blanked The Real Social Dads and came out on top 3-0. Real Coholics finished one place ahead of the Dads in the league, and they reasserted why they finished ahead of their opponents with this win. Alexandr Lazarev led the line for Real Coholics in their shutout of the Real Social Dads.
In a high-scoring barn burner of a match, Pathetic Bilbao outlasted Werder Beermen and won 25-20. Pathetic Bilbao were pipped to second place in the league by one point, so they will be out for redemption in this cup, and they got off to a good start. To no surprise for fans of Pathetic Bilbao, Marcus Vieira stole the show and received an 8.66 rating. Gianluca Gamberini also played well for Werder Beermen, but it wasn’t enough to outscore the high-flying Pathetic Bilbao.
In the final match of the first round, Shaktar Donuts stomped Atletico Madrink 28-13. The 7th placed Donuts provided the only upset of the round by toppling the 2nd seed Atletico Madrink. Matteo Scicchitano provided a huge lift for the Donuts through his 7.86 rating.
In our first match, Birrareal will face Real Coholics. Both teams will be vying for a spot in the Super Cup final, and Birrareal will hope to continue their stellar season. Real Coholics were one of two teams to defeat the champions with their triumph over Birrareal during the last week of the season. But, Fubles is still giving a slight edge to the league champions.
On the other side of the cup, Shaktar Donuts and Pathetic Bilbao face off. Another pair of teams that split their season ties with one win a piece, this semifinal promises to be exciting. And Fubles seems to agree, predicting this game as a 50/50 that could go down to the wire.
